wow it has been a long time. i noticed the last time i've updated anything on here was last february...which means it has been over a year since my last post. my sister has gotten married, i have taken another position at work, and i have moved. so, for those of you who have commented (aunt martha!) on my lack of postings, i apologize and hope to do better...since apparently some of you do like to hear what i have to say ;)
i often get teased as being a wordy person (me, wordy?! hard to believe i know...) so perhaps this is a great place for me to get some words out and be less wordy in general. probably not likely, but some of you can hope. hehe.
not much has changed as far as me; my career, my passions, and my heart remains the same. i still cannot wait to see this city become the dazzling place i know it can be although i have realized it cannot be what it once was and that is not a bad thing. actually i see it as a good thing. why move backward when we can move forward? and how true that is in our lives as well as in a city's life. i used to think that i could only work in brockton if i wanted to make a difference here, however i have also realized that i can make an impact in brockton just by being a resident here and caring about the people/what happens. granted i love working here and still would not change that. i think you could say i have just grown up a bit in my ideologies.
recently i was discussing the make up of brockton with some co-workers and we talked about how differently brockton is set up from most other communities. often cities have "pockets" or neighborhoods where people from the same ethnic/cultural background live. brockton is not like that. everyone is mixed together; a true melting pot if you will. historically when people of other cultures live in the same 'hood is when violence happens (i.e. irish moving into south boston). makes me wonder if that is part of the issue here. i don't think it is so simple as to say that this is the only issue(s) going on, or even if it is part of the issue at all. i just started thinking about how brockton is not split up into cultural neighborhoods anymore and perhaps this is adding to the tension. i love the "variety" the make up and differences that this city offers so for me it is sad to think that not everyone celebrates these differences. i don't know. those are just some of my thoughts.
so here we go, or here i go rather, with starting up this blog again. enjoy and don't forget to leave me some thoughts. :)
