Gratitude

Did you know that Stress has implications on our physical health?! I know crazy. Every Monday I get these emails from the HR department at work with tips on how to destress and sometimes they really resonate with me; well today was one of those days. Today, the reminder was to show gratitude for what we do have which, I realize, for some of us that might be easier than for others. But, what if, even when it seems impossible or really, really hard we push through the negative and focus on just one thing that we can show gratitude for? That doesn't necessarily mean that we are happy or that everything (or even anything!) will change. It means that we can be grateful for one thing...even if it does not shift our immediate mood or make us feel good. We live in a society that encourages us to live life based on our feelings so I realize I'm pushing against the very grain of society and that this might be uncomfortable for people. But stay with me. There's so much research on the...

We Begin Again

It's literally been years since I updated this blog. Wow. Not that I have a following or anything, but really I enjoy writing out my thoughts - it helps spark my creativity, my love of thinking, and, well, no one can interrupt my words. 😏 So, I thought it was about time to put pen to paper (well, fingers to keys to be more literal) and get this thing up and going again. What better time to restart this thing than during a lockdown, right?! Plus, my mom actually reminded me about it cause, truth be told, I probably wouldn't have thought about it otherwise (thanks, mom). In trying to narrow down what I wanted to write about (that's really the hardest part for me is just picking a topic!) I decided I needed to just start with a title. Well, when I finally did, that's when all the thoughts started coming to me. I was really trying to figure out how to re-introduce my blog to you all so I figured "We Begin Again" was a decent title, but after I wrote it, I start...

is it really august already??

i know, i know. it has been another few months since i've blogged.  it's a little bit funny though, i was looking back on my last post and i was saying how i was ready for a change/did not still believe i had to work in brockton in order to make the lasting impact i hope to make.  since that blog i have changed jobs and am now working at a juvenile detention program....outside of brockton.  it is interesting how things happen, huh? some days i am real happy at work and other days i miss working in brockton so much. i am very confused as to which is my true feelings on the subject and hope in the next few months i feel more grounded here. my co-workers are good people and i get along with them, but they are not the passionate , fun-loving , and energetic people i worked with in brockton. i know i ultimately want to be back in brockton working there...i would love to be a community caseworker for dys actually...but i am hoping that i can find peace working here until th...

i obviously suck at keeping a blog...

wow it has been a long time. i noticed the last time i've updated anything on here was last february...which means it has been over a year since my last post.  my sister has gotten married, i have taken another position at work, and i have moved.  so, for those of you who have commented (aunt martha!) on my lack of postings, i apologize and hope to do better...since apparently some of you do like to hear what i have to say ;) i often get teased as being a wordy person (me, wordy?! hard to believe i know...) so perhaps this is a great place for me to get some words out and be less wordy in general .  probably not likely, but some of you can hope. hehe.   not much has changed as far as me; my career, my passions, and my heart remains the same. i still cannot wait to see this city become the dazzling place i know it can be although i have realized it cannot be what it once was and that is not a bad thing. actually i see it as a good thing . why move ba...

Another One Bites the Dust

so it has officially happened...albeit i'm a bit late in posting it on my blog (and a bit late in blogging at all) but...   my big sister is getting married !! the best (for me) is that i am the maid of honor, and i am truly honored she has asked me to hold this special title.  after my cousin, kait, just tied the knot this past January and getting to witness such an awesome ceremony as well as a kick-ass reception i cannot wait for my sister's wedding.  i get to stand up for her and watch as she and justin, my brother-in-law to be, profess their love to each other. how cool is that? my favorite part is the reception because we'll be able to dance the night away with all their family and friends. cannot wait. shortly after i tell people about my sister's upcoming nuptials the big question comes up: "and do you have a special guy in your life sarah?" boy do i dread this question. not because i am sad or ashamed at my answer, but because i hate the looks i ge...

it's been far too long

wow. i hadn't realized how long it had been since i have posted anything on my blog....too long. as most bloggers do, i tend to use this space as my "external journal" if you will and i didn't realize how much i had missed it until i thought about all the stuff i could write about.  i guess that means i have some catching up to do then. hehe. well let's start with this: Police: Gunfire exchanged between vehicles near Brockton playground - Brockton, MA - The Enterprise yuck. i don't like this one bit. it happened across the street from me. literally . the address the shell casings were found at is directly across the street. while i do not like this most recent shooting it does not make me feel unsafe in my neighborhood. perhaps i should be since it happened while it was still light out but i know that these shootings are targeted.  not that innocent people don't get hurt sometimes, yet is that a reason to live in fear? similar to my last posting i think ...

Sounds Like Life to Me

You know that country song, sounds like life to me? well it's pretty great and if you don't know it you should give it a listen.  anyways, the song is about this guy who has started drinking again because the washing machine broke, his wife is pregnant, and he's just generally feeling like life sucks. his friend essentially tells him to buck up, suck it up and stop feeling sorry for yourself. his actually words are   it sounds like life to me it ain’t no fantasy It’s just a common case of everyday reality Man I know it’s tough but you gotta suck it up To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy It sounds like life to me  The song really makes me think about my own life and how i tend to be a little dramatic sometimes (i know, it's hard to believe) . but, i tend to get bent out of shape over the little things rather than the bigger ones. if there is tension with me and a friend i will literally lose sleep over it while i can get laid off and just "go with ...

Sun, Sand, & Boats

i LOVE summer. this is a fairly new love for me, i used to be a fall/winter kind of girl but not anymore. like right now as i am sitting in my house listening to the heat kick on I am cold...and that's with a blanket over my lap too. i wish i could open the window and listen to the birds chirp outside and feel the warm breeze on my skin. doesn't that just sound so inviting?! i keep reminding myself that it is just around the corner and with the beautiful 60 degree weather we have been having (minus the past few days of solid rain), i am starting to believe it. my love of summer began when my family bought a cottage on west  island. it is one of the most peaceful places to be. we can just grab our towels and walk down to the beach. writing about it, i can almost feel the sun warming my skin while i sit on the beach. hmmm... one of my favorite things to do is ride out on my dad's sailboat. i am much more of a power boat girl, but i'm certainly not going to give up...

The Good Old Days

i am a sucker for "the good ol' days". you know what i mean, the days back when a community acted as such rather than the now-a-days every man for himself attitude. more specifically i miss what i have heard of what my city used to be (keep reading, more on that below). unfortunately i never knew it as that community-oriented place. but i still miss it. i think you all have an idea of what i mean though, you have probably heard similar stories about places near you or even your own towns. like this photo of downtown brockton...it was a HOT place and anyone who was anyone was there (especially when hometown hero Rocky Marciano came home as in this pic)! while campaigning for his presidency even JFK made several stops in brockton because it was such the place to be. movie stars used to come here because they chose to. so my question is what makes a place turn from such splendor into a rather depressed area? sure we've all heard that it was when the shoe factories mo...

what am i going to be when i grow up?

i turned down a full-time job on friday . It was a full-time job with benefits at the Juvenile Resource Center (JRC). why ? i would have had to give up my current job at the boys and girls club in brockton and i just couldn't do it. most of the people i talked to about it told me hands down to take the full-time job. of course i should have, right? benefits, good company, an actual salary. but i didn't. i chose to remain at the teen center. again, why? i have wondered this very thing several times just since friday. BUT , i call it a God thing. Some call it woman's intuition, and others have different names for it. whatever you choose to call it, i feel called to work in this community and with these kids. right now, i feel that "pull" to remain at the boys and girls club. the kids can be mad and angry but also fun and lovable. i get it. if i had gone through half of what some of them have gone through i would be angry too. i would take it out on others ...
So for a few weeks now i have been contemplating creating my own blog space. alas, here it is. Not that i think many people will read it, but merely because i am intrigued with the whole concept and find it a great way to "get things off my chest". i cannot promise i will be very good at updating this here blog, or if it will be something that anyone will even want to read. But it will be my thoughts, my feelings, my general ramblings on life. Those that know me well are probably thinking : "I'm surprised it took her this long to find a space to ramble on and on...!" however it has taken me so long because i had to leave my thoughts of writings = college and papers behind. For 7 years writing, meant papers. it meant writing about what someone else deemed important. and yes, those topics were (and still are) important however they were very rarely my passion. ugh. how many pages must i have written over the ye...
